Workshop on the Go – Wonderland Layouts

I actually finished my sample pages BEFORE our monthly workshop on Sunday! I LOVE these papers, even though we’ve had no measurable snow to mention here in Southern Indiana, but I’m sure it’s coming.
We’ll be creating 3, 2-page layouts using the gorgeous Wonderland Level 2 Papers and coordinating stamps and accessories.
Here’s the featured layout from the WOTG Brochure:

I did modify the layout just a tad. Instead of the rounded tabs, I used half-scallops.

The piece of paper sticking on the left page is actually a piece off of my glue dots roll. I forgot about sliding a picture under the chocolate dot ribbon and put adhesive on the entire length of the paper :( Thankfully, I had a scrap piece of the wax paper from my glue dots to save me having to pull it up later to add a picture.

Here’s the second layout we will be doing:

This layout is from Magic – Secret. Again, I modified it slightly from the layout shown in the WOTG brochure. Instead of using the coffee cups from the stamp set, I added in a couple of Top Coats Icing Overlays (now sold out).

I always have a selection of stamps, and since this group usually orders the My Stickease to go with the papers, there are several options for personalizing your layouts.

The third layout we will be doing is from Imagine – Powerful Trio. This layout is also featured in the Autumn/Winter Idea Book (pg. 58).

Again, I modified it slightly from the one shown in the Idea Book, but only to work with what papers were left after creating the first two layouts from the WOTG Guide. There is NO stamping on this layout! I did use Grey Flannel and Twilight inks to sponge the edges of various papers and stickease. I also added in a couple of the Top Coats Icing Overlays.

Here are some close ups of the detail:

As there was no Chocolate cardstock left, I used Grey Flannel under the My Stickease snowflakes. I inked the edges in Twilight. The pieces are also cut with our Cricut Art Philosophy Cartridge. The large petal is cut at 2 1/4” with Shift + <Flower7> (pg. 39), the small snowflake is cut at 1 1/2” with <Circle3> (pg. 41). I cut one of the 4x6 Top Coats Icing Overlays apart to create the border across the top of the left page. There is a slight overlap to make the patterns match up. To adhere them, I slid them under the Grey Flannel Snowflake paper. This allows them to lift up to slide an 8x10 photo in and have a beautiful border on your photo.

On the right page, I added a small Top Coats Icing Overlay to the center of the snowflake stickease. I also inked the edges of the stickease snowflakes, quote, and journal circle. The snowflakes and quote are popped up with 3D Foam Tape. I used the Cricut Art Philosophy Cartridge to cut the photo mats. The two outside mats are cut at 3 1/2” with <Square5> (pg. 63) and the middle mat is cut at 3 1/2” with <Square4> (pg. 53).

Since December got super hectic very quickly for me this year, I did not get my Christmas cards done. I think it's the first year in the last 14 that I have not done any Christmas cards. When the 19th rolled around and I still hadn't started, I decided to concede defeat and came up with a plan to do New Year's cards instead. January's Stamp of the Month is the PERFECT set for New Year's!

I love how the images in this set coordinate well with the Cricut Art Philosophy Cartridge! The large month's circle is cut at 2 1/2" inches using [circle1]. The smaller dates circle is cut at 1 3/4 inches using [circle1]. I cut the little banner pieces at 2" using [banner1]. I started off using the Delightful Dots pattern from Wishes and then modified it slightly. The "12" is embossed in Cocoa embossing powder for a little extra flair. I also placed bitty sparkles in between the months on the larger circle.

For a little added dimension, I used 3D Foam tape to pop the date late off the month layer. I added a little dark chocolate striped grosgrain ribbon to finish off the card.

Believe Christmas Card Workshop - 10 for $10

This is the last of my Christmas Card workshops for this year. I used the same card patterns as before, just changed the papers to the Believe Level 2 Paper Packet. I also changed the stamp sets that were used.

Wonderland Die Cut Christmas Card Workshop

As promised, here is the Wonderland version of yesterday's Christmas Cards.

Again, inspired by the cards on page 76 of the Autumn/Winter Idea Book. This time, I used the Wonderland Level 2 Papers and coordinating stamps. I don't actually have the stamps that I have in mind to use with these cards, so I improvised with what I do have until I get my order on Friday. I will try to repost cards with the stamps I intend to use for the workshop. I did play with a new technique that was shared by fellow consultant, Nancy Klaphake. I used my Cricut and the Art Philosophy Cartridge to emboss the snowflake before cutting it out. Yes, you read that right - you CAN emboss with the Cricut and the Art Philosophy Cartridge! I'll share the technique details in another post (read, I wasn't smart enough to take pics as I went - lol!)

Believe Die Cut Christmas Card Workshop

I think I'm finally finding my groove and balance again after changing work schedules yet again. Of course, it probably helped that yesterday was our monthly Workshop on the Go layouts workshop. I had SO much fun and it was SO needed!

Anyway, I digress, I spent today finishing up some ideas for Christmas cards for this year. Yes, a LOT later than I had hoped/planned, but things happen. And I have to admit, that I'm really pleased with how this set turned out.

I love that our Idea Books are not only jam-packed with amazing and quality products, but also TONS of awesome artwork ideas as well! I used the Believe Level 2 Papers instead of the Chocolate Cardstock. You'll also note, that I changed one of the sentiments. While I love the "Happy Holiday" tag, I'm more of a "Merry Christmas" person. Either will be available for the workshop (as well as a small selection of other Christmas greetings and verses for the insides).

Cut, Crop, Cure 2011

I had a WONDERFUL time at the Cut, Crop, Cure fundraiser event for Warrick County Relay for Life yesterday! While it was a relatively small crop, the people were great, the food was absolutely AMAZING, and the entire day was fun! Sharon and her relay team put on a fabulous day for everyone! They had goody bags for all the croppers, hourly door prizes, a silent auction, yard sale table, and more!

The food was AMAZING (yes, I know I said that already)! We were served home-cooked meatloaf and/or fried chicken for lunch with green beans, corn, mashed potatoes and gravy, and a DELICIOUS chocolate cake for dessert. Dinner was spaghetti with salad and garlic bread - and more chocolate cake! I think it's the best two meals I've had all week! (Shhh! Don't tell my husband - LOL!) Of course, there were snacks throughout the day as well - zucchini bread, apple-raisin bread, banana bread, chocolate chip cookies, chips & dip, and more.

Vendors for the day included Creative Memories, TNT Scrapping, Scentsy, and myself. Kim, with TNT Scrapping, offered a technique demonstration on how to sand and color plain chipboard. Becky, with Creative Memories, had a place set up to demonstrate their punches. I offered a free 12x12 page make and take with an additional page kit available for purchase if attendees wanted a 2-page layout.

Inspired by fellow consultant, Carol Labuski, I created and offered the following page for our make and take:

The title, swirls, and tag were cut using the Cricut Art Philosophy cartridge. We stamped the journal box from the Limited Edition set on the tag in Cocoa ink, added the phrase "Good Times" in Vineyard Berry ink, and added "date" and "what" in Juniper ink.

Studio J: Love Your Layout {September 2011}

Stamp of the Month Blog Hop {Limited Edition}

It's time once again for our Stamp of the Month Blog Hop! This month, we are featuring September's Stamp of the Month, Limited Edition, set of 21.

I LOVE journaling type stamp sets, which this set is absolutely PERFECT for! Since I've been slacking in the artwork department, I decided to create 3 little projects for this month's stamp set.

First up, is this cute petal box using the Cricut Art Philosophy Collection.

The box is cut at 11" using Font Layer + Shift [circle1] (p. 21).

The tag card at 3 1/2" using Card [tag4] (p. 60).

Using the tag stamp with Vineyard Berry ink, stamp the image on the tag.

Stamp "Congratulations" in Juniper ink.

Stamp the corner flourish in Juniper ink in opposite corners of the tag.

Ink distress edges of card in Cocoa Ink.

Assemble box following score lines.

Wrap with ribbon (Cocoa Organdy used here).

Tie ribbon through card and finish off with a bow.

I thought this could also make a cute little pocket calendar for important birthdays and/or dates to remember. You'll either need to use a date stamp set (such as Save the Date) or hand write in the months, etc.

Cut 13 tags at 3 1/2" using [tag4] (p. 60).

Cut label at 1" and 1 1/2" using [rctngle7] (p. 55).

Stamp tag image on one tag using Juniper ink.

Stamp "Calendar" title on 1" label.

Stamp journaling block on remaining tags.

Using sponge, add Vineyard Berry ink to 1 1/2" label for color and texture.

Sponge edges of all pieces in Cocoa ink.

Using a small loose-leaf book ring, assemble your calendar.

Add ribbon(s) as desired to book ring.

For my last little project, I created a journaling block. This stamp set will help you record some of the important things to go with your photos: who, what, when, where, and the date.

Cut journaling block at 2" using [rctngle1] (p. 44).

Cut label at 1" using [rctngle7] (p. 55).

Workshop on the Go - Mischief Layouts

I finally got the chance to finish up the 2 layouts we'll be creating on Sunday at our workshop. I LOVE the new Mischief papers and coordinating stamps. Of course, Halloween is one of my favorite holidays.

This is the featured layout from the WOTG guide.

I love the use of the new zip strips from our papers! Check out the border at the bottom!

Here's a couple of close-ups of the details:

The flourish images are stamped in Colonial White ink (ours is pigment ink and needs heat set).

The cute "wicked" image is highlighted with the new Midnight Felt Shapes! I LOVE these die-cut felt shapes. And they are self-adhesive!

Again the images are stamped in Colonial White and heat set using the craft heater.

Check out that tree! It's also one of our Midnight Felt Shapes.

The saying is cut from one of the zip strips across the tops of our paper. There's quite a few Halloween/Autumn sayings to choose from!

I love how this layout doesn't necessarily have to be Halloween!

Check out how the tombstone stamp was used to make a label for the book!

All images were popped up using our 3-D Foam Tape.

Turn the candelabra upside down to make a chandelier (also one of our Midnight Felt Shapes)!

One of the books was stamped directly on to the B&T paper. The other was stamped on Colonial White cardstock then colored using Cocoa Ink and the Waterbrush.

Cricut Art Philosophy - Shape Index

Workshop on the Go - {Mischief}

With the new Idea Book, comes 8 new paper packets, as well as 8 new Workshop on the Go kits! I'm loving ALL of them and trying to figure out how to fit them all in!

Our WOTG kits did change with this Idea Book, but it's a GREAT change! Now, we get 2 layouts and a "bonus" project to complete. I'm LOVING the bonus projects and am planning to complete all of them! The bonus projects vary with each kit. Some feature cards, other feature 3D items such as boxes and banners. They are all wonderful.

I've finally figured out my WOTG schedule for the next six months - well, as far as which kits I'm featuring each month.

My 2 "extras" are Elemental and Sonoma and I hope to fit them in somewhere as well - just not sure where yet.

Here's how I plan to do the Workshops on the Go for the Autumn/Winter Idea Book. I am offering you a choice of either 3, 2 page 12x12 layouts or 2, 2 page 12x12 layouts and the bonus project. Whichever you want to do is up to you. I'd like to say we could do 3 layouts and the bonus project, but since I don't have my order yet, I haven't actually tried it (but do plan to). The third layout will come from one of our Idea Books and you will also get a set of instructions to go with it.

I think the biggest announcement from our Annual Convention was CTMH's partnership with Provo Craft in designing an exclusive Close To My Heart Cricut^® Art Philosophy collection! We’ve worked with Provo Craft^* to bring you a Cricut^® cartridge filled with 700 shapes hand-selected by company founder and CEO Jeanette Lynton. Simply insert the cartridge into your Cricut^® electronic die-cutting machine (sold at retail stores) and you’re ready to cut any of the shapes with the touch of a button! Choose from stunning rosettes, unique gift boxes, elegant doilies, crafty banners, and more. The exclusive images are incredibly versatile, and many are designed to be used with specific My Acrylix^® stamps for real eye-popping power!

The Art Philosophy cartridge is incredible - it includes 700 shapes. There are 50 basic shapes (shown on this button overlay). But the most amazing part is that all six Feature buttons of the Cricut are utilized.

Layer: frames, outline shapes

New Studio J Additions!

Close To My Heart recently added to our wonderful Studio J online digital scrapbooking program!

We now have two new kits: Discovery and Independence Day. These were very popular paper kits a few summers ago, now you can enjoy creating layouts with them again in Studio J. Of course, now you have a LOT more options. Don't like the colors? Change them! Papers need toned down? Change them! I LOVE the options available in Studio J. This new kits are available for everyone!

CTMH also added two new patterns for Studio J Members: In Focus and Viewfinder.

In Focus spotlights 3 photos, as well as a title and journaling area.

CTMH also added some new embellishment features: STITCHING! I love this! Stitching has been an option using the threads for the buttons, but is very tedious and time consuming. Now, it's SO much easier! There are SEVERAL options: large cross stitch, small cross stitch, open cross stitch, zigzag stitch, back stitch, running stitch, blanket stitch, and scallop stitch. PLUS, you get three pennants: triangle, banner, and scallop. And there's also pre-formed shapes: stars, posies, hearts, blossoms, squares, and circles! You can resize, rotate, change colors, crop, etc.

Photo Tip: Photographing Fireworks

It's that time of year where we celebrate Independence Day across the United States. This year marks the 235th Anniversary of Independence Day! I know there are several fireworks displays scheduled for this weekend's activities (except in a select few areas due to droughts and wildfires). The boys and I are planning to set off a few fireworks of our own in the yard.

Have you ever tried taking pictures of fireworks only to be disappointed in your results? Are you like me, taking what seems like a gazillion pictures only to get a handful of good shots - and even then, those don't compare to ones you've seen printed elsewhere? Perhaps you're one of the lucky ones that takes awesome fireworks pictures.

This photo was taken with a Kodak CX7430 4MP digital camera - point and shoot, nothing fancy. I can't recall the settings I used, but I know I took close to 150 pictures that year and only got a handful or so that I really liked. These were professional fireworks from our local celebration.

This picture was taken with the same point and shoot camera. By adjusting the settings, as well as the boys playing with the sparklers, I was able to get some fun shots.

This picture was taken with my Kodak Z1012 IS 10MP digital camera - still point and shoot, but it has a LOT more settings. I tried several settings - including the fireworks setting. I can't remember what the setting was for this one either though.

If you're not one of the lucky ones, then I've got a few tips to share with you. Well, okay more like a collection of links to articles that will help you get the results you're after. And remember, practice does make better (as my oldest would say).

PC World goes into a few details about settings and why's, which is great for people like me who want to know WHY they need to set things a certain way. Also a few tips for us point and shoot users.

Stamp of the Month Blog Hop {American Celebration}

It's time once again for our Stamp of the Month Blog Hop! This month, we are featuring July's Stamp of the Month, American Celebration, set of 12.

If you've come from {Lisa's Blog}, you're on the right path. We have over 60 Close To My Heart Consultants sharing their creations using this month's SOTM and other great CTMH products on their blogs. This is simple to do - just click on the link at the end of the post on each blog to move to the next one! Here we go!

I absolutely LOVE this stamp set! I think I used every stamp in it except for 2. I created a one page layout using Background and Texture (B&T) paper from Fanfare.

I stamped the fireworks images in Versa Mark ink, then embossed them. The 1/2 scallops across the bottom, are just that - 1/2 of our 2" scallop punched circles. I accordion folded each 1/2 for a ruffled look. The centers are done with the small heart firework image then punched with the 1 1/4" circle punch, then cut in half. The flag was stamped in Pacifica for the star and Cranberry for the stripes. I used a piece of our Kraft Borders for the flag pole. "America" is also embossed. The "Celebrate" is stamped in Cranberry, then cut out. I used a couple of small pieces of foam tape on the ends to raise it up off the photo mat so a photo could be slipped under later.

Understanding Product Retirement

I've already had a few questions about the new Autumn/Winter 2011 Idea Book and what will be retiring. While we have not yet been given a retired list, and I'm not sure that we'll get one, I thought I'd share with you what CTMH shared with us back in January when we switched to 2 Idea Books per year. (I thought I had shared it, but maybe not.) Here are the whats, whens, and whys of product retirement in 2011 and beyond.

My Acrylix^® Stamps

Current + preceding Idea Book. We know you love to have a wide variety of My Acrylix^® stamps to choose from, so we’re making them available longer. You will be able to purchase stamp sets from the current Idea Book and the one immediately preceding, making our stamp sets available for a minimum of one year.

My Reflections^® Products

Current Idea Book only. Because you love our My Reflections^® line of products, we’ve increased the number of new paper collections we're offering to eight per Idea Book. My Reflections products are available only if they are featured in the current Idea Book; however, we are pulling forward four kits from each Idea Book into the next one, so you’ll have a total of 12 kits to choose from at any given time!

Accessories

Current Idea Book only. Accessories can only be purchased if they are featured in the current Idea Book. Many accessories will be retired each Idea Book cycle to make way for new products, but a large number of popular and versatile accessories and tools will be carried from Idea Book to Idea Book. While we won’t be publishing a Retiring List that announces the retirement of each accessory beforehand, we will let you know if an entire category of products is being retired.

Workshops on the Go™ Kits

Current Idea Book + 1-month before and after. So that you can plan your workshops ahead of time, we make Workshops on the Go™ kits available one month before the Idea Book they’re featured in goes live to customers. Stamp of the Month Blog Hop {Jubilation}

I've had this idea in my head for a while now.

I thought this would be a great stamp set to make travel games with, especially since the designs fit our 1 1/4" circle punch so well! I opted to make a tic-tac-toe game.

I found a tin in my stash of alterable stuff.

The "board" is Desert Sand Cardstock, dry embossed and sanded for definition of the lines.

I rounded the corners using our corner rounder to make it fit the bottom of the tin.

It is adhered to the tin with red line tape.

I chose the leaf design, but you could choose any of the designs.

I stamped 12 images - 6 in Olive and 6 in Sunset, then punched them out using the 1 1/4" circle punch.

I used a small piece of adhesive magnet to help hold the game pieces in place while traveling.

Inks: Olive and Sunset

How to Add Dimension to Stamped Images {Tutorial}

Remember these flowers from my earlier post on the Sophia Layouts Workshop?

Here's a quick tutorial on how I added a little dimension to make the flowers pop. You'll need a stamp that you can cut apart and layer back together. I used Heartfelt Treasures. You'll also need your micro-tip scissors, or another tool that has a rounded tip, and either the Versamat or the foam sheet that comes with each of our stamp sets.

Stamp your image twice. For the first image, cut the entire image out.

For the second image, cut just a piece of the image out so that you can layer it.

Now, take your Micro-Tip Scissors, or another tool that has a rounded tip to it.

You'll want to leave your scissors in their case.

Using the back side of the Versamat (or the foam sheet that comes with our stamp sets), you'll just rub your scissors in a circular motion in the middle of the flower.

You'll start to see a slight indentation and the petals will curl upwards.

To finish your flower, add a small piece of 3D Foam Tape between the two layers and finish off with a button for the center.

I used the same technique on the leaves, just rubbing in a line along the open areas of the leaves.

I added 3D Foam Tape to the leaves to help them stand out on the page.

Then added 3D Foam Tape to the assembled flower.

Workshop on the Go {Sophia Layouts}

I finally had a chance to photograph our layouts from our Sophia Workshop last weekend. We created 3, 2 page 12x12 layouts using the Sophia Workshop on the Go Kit. This kit comes complete with a Sophia Level 2 Paper Packet, Exclusive WOTG only stamp set, our new Pink Button Assortment, and Colonial White Waxy Flax. Plus you also get the workshop guide which gives you cutting, stamping, and assembly instructions for complete the featured layout and 6 cards. You'll also have access/instructions to completing a second layout and/or 6 more cards. Since we do it as a layout workshop, I also come up with a 3rd layout using the same How-To book as the second layout - in this case, Magic.

This is the featured layout from the guide. Those of you that know me, know that I'm really good at following instructions, so there's not much variation here.

Here's a couple of close ups for some of the stamping and embellishing details. I love how we used the B&T to stamp on to give it a subtle pattern underneath the image. Then layering and popping the image and adding buttons completes the look.

Here's the second layout that is shown in the guide. You can get the cutting guide from my website to show you which papers to use for which pieces.

Here's a close up of the stamping detail. I also used some leftover cardstock to cut my journaling and photo mats according to the sizes listed in Magic.

Here's the third layout we completed. I did add in the use of Heartfelt Treasures for this layout.

Here's a close up of the flower detail. I love how layering and adding 3D foam tape for dimension really popped these flowers.

Now, all I need to do is go through my pics of my adorable granddaughter and find the right ones for these pages. Look for the new post for a tutorial on how to make your flowers pop just a little more using a really simple technique.

NSM - Sketch Challenge - Imagine Sweet Symphony

Let's start the week off with a sketch challenge!

Your challenge is to create a layout, complete with photos, journaling and title, based on this sketch from Imagine - Sweet Symphony. You are allowed to rotate pages, swap pages, etc., however, your finished layout must resemble this sketch. You should be able to click on the picture to make it larger. You can also access the PDF file here.

In order to participate, you'll need to upload your completed layout to my Facebook Sketches Album OR, you can post to your blog, Splitcoast Stampers gallery, etc. and then leave a comment on this post with the link to your completed layout.

Stamp of the Month Blog Hop {Chairs to You}

It's time once again for our Stamp of the Month Blog Hop! This month, we are featuring May's Stamp of the Month, Chairs to You, set of 14.

If you've come from {Vickie's Blog}, you're on the right path. We have close to 60 Close To My Heart Consultants sharing their creations using this month's SOTM and other great CTMH products on their blogs. This is simple to do - just click on the link at the end of the post on each blog to move to the next one! Here we go!

I created a 6x6 Card from Originals - Package Deal using a combination of Miracle & Bliss B&T papers, along with some Pear Cardstock, Bamboo Cardstock and Colonial White Cardstock.

I just slightly modified the inside to look like this...

I've seen these three dimensional cards before, but this is my first attempt at one.

I stamped the 2 chairs on Bliss B&T paper in Cocoa ink and cut out.

I added Bitty Brads in Antique Copper for the "buttons" on the big chair.

For the other chair, I used my water brush and colored in the flowers.

The chairs are attached with a 1/2" x 2" strip of Colonial White Cardstock so that they stand out when the card is opened up, but lay flat when closed.

I used my Cuttlebug with my Nestabilities Labels 4 for the 2 "wall hangings", which are also stamped in Cocoa Ink. They are attached with 3D Foam Tape.

The "table" is actually one of the chairs, I just trimmed the back off of it as well.

Stamp of the Month Blog Hop {Blessed}

It's time once again for our Stamp of the Month Blog Hop! This month, we are featuring April's Stamp of the Month, Blessed, set of 12.

If you've come from {Angela's Blog}, you're on the right path. We have close to 60 Close To My Heart Consultants sharing their creations using this month's SOTM and other great CTMH products on their blogs. This month, I chose to create this card using Originals - Colors & Cubes pattern - slightly modified. I used our new 2" scallop punch to punch the Hollyhock scalloped circle. Then used my coluzzle (retired) to cut a 1 1/2" circle. I took the long flower stamp, turned it upside down and masked off most of the stamp so that I had just the flourish from the bottom of the stem. The butterfly outline is stamped in Goldrush, then stamp the shade portion in second generation Goldrush. I LOVE this stamp set as you get outline and solid stamps that line up perfectly!

Here's a close up of the butterfly. I gently folded it at it's wings then I used a mini glue dot and rolled it up into a line and adhered it only to the center portion so it's wings were free.

Workshop on the Go {Mayberry}

I finished up my samples for the Mayberry Workshop on the Go Layouts workshop that I'll be doing this month. Well, they are as finished as they are going to get until I get pictures sorted out to go with them. One of my goals for this summer is to get all my pictures organized and start putting pictures on all my blank pages.

As usual, we will be doing 3 layouts. Here's the featured layout from the instructional guide.

I love the I can get 3 different looks from one My Reflections Paper Packet using different papers and patterns.
